Apple's new iPhone So, I’m pretty sure that thousands of people by now already have in their possession a new iPhone. I have to admit, that I wanted one myself when I first heard about it. It’s a new toy, a new gadget. Of course I’m going to want it! However, after reading this particular article on the true cost of the iPhone, I have changed my mind. I just don’t think it’s worth it, especially when I have a PDA and an iPod that does the things that the iPhone does.

I went to my local AT&T store, hoping to catch a glimpse of an iPhone on display. I didn’t get a chance to see or touch an actual iPhone, much to my disappointment. However, I was able to get my hands on a pamphlet that outlines the iPhone plans.

The plans are just outrageous. My current plan under a different carrier includes unlimited night and weekend minutes, along with unlimited texting to anybody on any network. That’s what I need the most, and I only pay about fifty bucks a month for it. If I were to splurge on myself and get this new iPhone, it would end up costing me…roughly around $100 bucks a month (not including all of the taxes).

The cheapest plan starts off at $60 bucks a month, but it includes only 450 minutes per month, and only 5000 night and weekend minutes. Plus, you only get 200 texts per month. I’d have to jump to the next plan in order to get unlimited night and weekends, then add on the option of unlimited texting for an additional $20 bucks a month. Which would end up costing me $100 bucks a month. That’s just insane! I pay around $50 bucks a month right now for 700 daytime minutes, unlimited night and weekends, and unlimited texting.

And yet, I still find myself wanting one very badly. :worried:

Despite this, I know many people don’t really care about the cost of owning such a neat toy. Of course, I read in another article somewhere that young adults and teenagers are less likely to get the iPhone for the same reasons I’m not getting one. It’s just too much money to be spending on one phone. Which by the way, will more than likely be revamped and a newer model will come out sooner or later. It’s just the way technology works, people.

But. No matter how expensive it is to buy and maintain the iPhone, it just looks so neat. Oh how I would love to get my greedy little hands on one. :sly:
