So, my husband and I decided on an apartment that we both liked and was available immediately. We are now official residents of Virginia. This is actually our first night here at the new apartment, even though we signed the lease for it on Wednesday. I’m excited because one of our neighbors has wireless internet!!! The apartment we got is really nice, though. It wasn’t the one that I truly wanted, but I’m glad that we didn’t go with that after all. Despite their tempting offer of a free one-hour massage upon signing the lease, the kitchen wasn’t big enough for me. I’m a total foodie and I love cooking. I need a nice kitchen with plenty of counter space. The apartment that we got not only has an awesome kitchen, but a nice dining room as well. I love it! I also like the fact that they have several guards on duty patrolling the entire apartment complex. It’s actually a rather large place here, and so I feel safe knowing there’s someone out there keeping the peace. I have yet to start job hunting. It’s too late to get a teaching job here in Virginia, though I’ve found out that I am able to teach with a temporary license because I’m officially licensed to teach in the state of Texas, woot! I might go and apply for a teacher’s aide position, though. It’s like teaching without the responsibilities haha. Anyway, I’m not entirely keen on the idea of teaching in another state. I don’t even know any of their standards, or content area requirements. Do they teach to the test like we do in Texas? I’m guessing it’s like that everywhere, only I’m not informed of their testing standards like I am with Texas. Anyway, I’m not even sure if they still have any openings in my district. School starts on the 2nd here. I don’t even have my official transcripts or reference letters. All that stuff is with my mother, who needs to mail it ASAP. Along with some Splenda. There are so many things that I need to do online…I’m very much behind on things and very out of the loop. I love my neighbors and their wireless internet. *hugs* …or so they say. Hello from Norfolk, Virginia!! We’ve been staying at the Navy Lodge since we arrived on Saturday. We finally went apartment hunting today, but it was such a disappointment. My favorite apartment won’t be available until the first week of September, and we need one right now. As for Virginia itself, I have to say that I’m a little shocked with all the friendliness here. Everyone that I’ve met has been so super sweet that I now have cavities. Okay, so that may be an exaggeration. I guess Virginia isn’t too bad. I’ve eaten at the Cheesecake Factory already, and they have a Rally’s here! We used to have a Rally’s in my hometown when I was around eight, but it closed down. Finally, I get to eat their fries again. Lots of things to do over the next few days. Hopefully we’ll be in an apartment by the end of the week. The Navy Lodge is nice and all that, but it is a hotel room after all. I want to be able to lounge around naked in my own living room. |
